# Parent Involvement

Parents can do a tremendous amount to support their children's reading development in the Once program.

First and foremost, parents can ensure their children attend school every day so they receive consistent Once instruction. Parents can also read to their children often and ask their children what sounds they know or hear in words. After the children have completed Cycle 30 in the Once program, they will begin bringing home [decodable books](/decodables.md), which parents can ask their children to read to them.

## Beginning-of-Year Parent Information Flyer

Before you begin using Once with students in the classroom, it is best practice to notify parents or guardians that their child will be receiving supplemental one-on-one reading instruction. You can use this one-page overview of Once to provide notice and explain the program. This file includes full translations in eight languages.
