The initial onboarding and training is designed for school support staff who will deliver instruction to students as part of Once. The training consists of two segments we refer to as Part One and Part Two Onboarding.
Part One Onboarding is held in a large group setting for all of the instructors who will facilitate Once instruction, for the identified point person from each school, and for the school-based administrators, preferably the school principal, across a school district. It is recommended that this session is held in a district's professional development space or a school auditorium, multi-purpose room, or cafeteria.
The objectives for the Part One Onboarding session include:
Understanding the context of Once’s vision and methodology.
Preparing instructors to teach reading.
Part Two Onboarding is held in small group sessions within schools. During these sessions, our focus is to make sure that everyone is well prepared, to help problem-solve any school-specific issues, and to answer all of the questions.
The objectives of the Part Two Onboarding session include:
Further preparing instructors to teach reading by allowing instructors to practice the initial instructional content they will deliver.
Training instructors on the minimal technical requirements for operating Once.
Scheduling weekly coaching sessions.
Allowing instructors to ask questions and receive personalized feedback.
Introducing the Once data portal and resource center.
Additionally, our team provides a modified Part One Onboarding session for classroom teachers who will have students participating in the Once program. These sessions are designed during the initial strategic planning and implementation meeting and are differentiated to meet the needs of the district and schools.
The objectives of the Part One Onboarding for classroom teachers include:
Understanding the context of Once’s vision and methodology.
Learning how instructors will be teaching reading to students.
