Parents can do a tremendous amount to support their children's reading development during the Once program.
Parents can ensure their children attend school every day, they can read to their children every day, they can ask their children what sounds they know or hear in words, and, after Cycle (lesson) 30 in the Once scope and sequence, ask their children to read the decodable book that their children will bring home after each lesson.
Before you begin using Once with students in the classroom, it is best practice to notify parents or guardians that their child will be receiving supplemental one-on-one reading instruction. You can use this one-page overview of Once to provide notice and explain the program. This file includes full translations in eight languages.
